“The Man with the Magic Hands”

A practice built on touch
Dr. Dirk Willard has spent his career doing something that is increasingly rare in healthcare: putting his hands on patients and taking the time to feel what is actually wrong. Long before an adjustment is delivered, he is reading the spine — joint by joint — for restriction, guarding and asymmetry.
That skill is where the nickname came from. Patients in Winston-Salem started calling him The Man with the Magic Hands, and it stuck, because results tend to arrive faster than people expect.
Total Health Chiropractic serves Winston-Salem and the surrounding Triad: office workers with tension headaches, weekend athletes, factory and warehouse workers with repetitive strain, families after an auto accident, and patients who simply want to stop taking something for pain every morning.
The philosophy is straightforward. The nervous system controls everything your body does. When spinal joints stop moving properly, they irritate the nerves around them and the body compensates — usually somewhere else, usually painfully. Restore the motion, calm the nerve, support it with strength and better habits, and the body does the rest.
Your first visit
What to expect, step by step
Consultation
We start with your story — what hurts, when it started, what you have already tried, and what you want to get back to doing.
Examination
A full orthopedic, neurological and postural exam identifies which joints are restricted and which nerves are involved. Imaging is referred only when it will change the plan.
Report of findings
Dr. Willard explains exactly what he found in plain language, along with a realistic timeline for correction.
Adjustment & plan
When appropriate, your first adjustment happens the same day, followed by a care plan with home stretches and clear progress checkpoints.
